In a significant political demonstration, Congress party members took to the streets, marching towards the Uttarakhand Assembly in Gairsain on Tuesday.
The protest aimed to highlight pressing issues such as rising crimes against women, the Ankita Bhandari murder case, and the deteriorating law and order situation, alongside surging inflation. Despite the peaceful intentions expressed by the protesters, they were met with police barricades and a stern warning to disperse at Diwalikhal, located close to the assembly's premises.
Congress leaders claimed excessive force was employed by police, including baton charges and water cannons, to quell the protest. In defense, police officers reported injuries during the skirmish. The session inside the assembly mirror the chaos outside, with Congress MLAs demanding urgent discussions on these pivotal issues. The protest marks a surge in political activity as Congress vows to oust the ruling BJP in the upcoming elections.
