The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended a chief electrical distribution engineer from the Central Railway in connection with a Rs 10 lakh bribery case, officials announced Tuesday. Along with him, two private associates were also taken into custody.

The case, registered against the 2003-batch officer from the Indian Railway Services of Electrical Engineers, originates from a suspected tender-related conspiracy involving a Rs 40.54 crore deal. Raids conducted in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Karjat yielded significant cash and valuables, including Rs 90.79 lakh in cash, gold, and silver jewellery.

The accused engineer was caught accepting a bribe amount reaching Rs 10 lakh. Officials revealed that the engineer allegedly colluded with private company stakeholders to secure the tender, demanding Rs 40 lakh as the bribe. The arrests and seizure highlight an ongoing crackdown on corruption within the railways.
