Pursuit of Justice: Anjel Chakma's Case Seeks Cross-Border Resolution

A prime suspect in the murder of 24-year-old Anjel Chakma has reportedly escaped to Nepal, prompting Dehradun Police to initiate extradition proceedings, officials disclosed on Thursday. Senior Superintendent Ajay Singh confirmed that a detailed report has been sent to central authorities to facilitate the extradition of Yagyaraj Awasthi.

Anjel Chakma was brutally attacked in Dehradun's Selaqui area on December 9, and later succumbed to injuries. In the aftermath, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha visited the bereaved family, promising stringent measures against the culprits. 'We are determined to ensure justice,' he stated after consultations with Uttarakhand's CM Pushkar Singh Dhami.

Concerns over trial fairness prompted the All India Chakma Students Union to request a transfer to Delhi. Meanwhile, Tarun Debbarma, Chakma's father, has been promised support, including employment opportunities for his surviving son. Victim advocacy groups are calling for transparency as this high-profile investigation unfolds.
