A brutal daylight murder shocked the city of Dehradun on Monday, as 22-year-old Gunjan Srivastava was allegedly killed by Akash Kumar, who surrendered shortly after the crime.
The incident unfolded in Machhi Bazaar when Gunjan, attacked with a cleaver, sustained fatal injuries. She was declared dead at Doon Hospital.
The murder has incited outrage among local traders, who closed markets to protest alleged police inaction after Gunjan's harassment complaint. A substantial police presence has been established in the area to maintain order amidst rising tensions.
