Ukraine Under Siege: Energy Infrastructure Attacked Amid Rising Tensions
Russia launched a coordinated attack on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, deploying drones and missiles, resulting in nationwide power cuts and six fatalities, including a young girl. Ukrainian officials accused Russia of plunging the country into darkness and called for enhanced air defense systems and tougher sanctions on Moscow.

In a significant escalation, Russia launched a barrage of drones and missiles on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, triggering nationwide power restrictions. The assault left six people dead, including a seven-year-old girl. Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko condemned the attacks, accusing Moscow of deliberately targeting civilians and energy supplies as winter looms.
In response to these attacks, President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called for additional air defense systems and stronger sanctions against Russia. He reported that Ukraine's air defense units successfully intercepted a majority of the incoming threats, shooting down 592 drones and 31 missiles. However, damage to energy facilities in regions like Zaporizhzhia and Lviv has necessitated power and water supply limitations.
The Russian Ministry of Defense defended its actions, claiming they were countermeasures against Ukrainian strikes on Russian infrastructure. Meanwhile, civilians, like Viktoria and her son, have been forced to take shelter in metro stations, highlighting the grave human toll of this ongoing conflict.
