The Government of India is actively engaging with stakeholders across all economic sectors to foster participatory decision-making and promote trade, according to a release by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry on Monday. Rice stands as India's leading agricultural export, anticipated to hit approximately USD 12.95 billion in 2024-25, positioning the country as the world's largest rice producer.
Recognizing the significance of this sector, the Department of Commerce, alongside associated ministries, is providing non-financial backing to the Bharat International Rice Conference (BIRC) scheduled for 30-31 October 2025 at the Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. Organized by the Indian Rice Exporters' Federation (IREF), a private trade body comprising key rice exporters, the event aims to bolster India's rice trade expansion efforts.
The Rice Exporters Association, Chhattisgarh, and The Rice Exporters Association, Kakinada, are collaborating in the event, which is supported by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) to ensure comprehensive promotional strategies. The costs associated with organizing the conference, including logistics, venue booking, and buyer accommodations, are entirely covered by IREF and its partners. The Department refrains from commenting on internal matters of the IREF, responding to media speculations involving its president. (ANI)
