India is rapidly establishing itself as a key player in the Southeast Asian processed potato market, according to a report released by the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) on Thursday. Thanks to rising snack demand and infrastructure improvements in Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh, India's processed potato exports are seeing remarkable growth.
Dehydrated potato granules and pellets have become India's fastest-growing processed food export, with figures skyrocketing from USD 11.4 million in 2021-22 to USD 63.3 million in 2024-25. Other potato-based products such as flour, starch, chips, and ready-to-eat items have also experienced significant export increases.
Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh's contract farming and new dehydration facilities play critical roles, while Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, and Thailand account for nearly 80% of India's total exports. Preferential tariffs and strategic shipping routes further enhance India's competitiveness, as Europe and China lag behind due to various challenges.
