Bird flu has resurfaced in Northern Slovakia, according to the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH). The virus, particularly the H5N1 strain, has struck a poultry farm near Poland's border, claiming the lives of 27 birds.
The Slovakian authorities, as reported by WOAH, have taken decisive action by culling the remaining flock of 197 chickens, geese, and ducks. This development is part of a broader seasonal resurgence of avian influenza across Europe.
The outbreak prompts concerns, as it mirrors previous incidents that disrupted poultry supplies and spiked food prices, raising the specter of a potential pandemic. Both governments and the poultry industry remain vigilant in addressing the implications.
