In a sharp political critique, senior TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee on Friday labeled Prime Minister Narendra Modi as West Bengal's unexpected tourism ambassador. He argued Modi's campaign visits, as he walked along the Ganga and savored local street food, highlighted the state's attractions better than any official promotional efforts.

Addressing rallies in Howrah district's Jagatballavpur and Domjur, Banerjee credited these public gestures for revealing the state's beauty and development. Highlighting infrastructure achieved under Mamata Banerjee's leadership, he pointed out that Modi's spontaneous tourism endorsement was more impactful than government campaigns.

On electoral matters, Banerjee confidently predicted a TMC sweep similar to 2021's. A TMC spokesperson reported leads in over 125 seats out of 152, with BJP estimating over 110 seats for themselves. The high voter turnout of 93 percent in the first polling phase further fueled both parties' expectation of a landslide victory.
