The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is set to launch a sustained river conservation initiative, focusing on the Mula-Mutha river. Civic chief Naval Kishore Ram announced the move during the 'Nadi Mahotsav' event, emphasizing community involvement as crucial in tackling the river's pollution challenges.
Under the new plan, PMC will institutionalize weekly cleanup drives, shifting focus from symbolic events to structured campaigns. The clean-up efforts will involve public, NGOs, students, and other stakeholders targeting the river's most neglected areas.
Additionally, the program aligns with 'Mission LiFE,' promoting sustainable living. It aims to address source pollution through sewage treatment infrastructure and tackle non-source pollution such as littering. The initiative highlights the need for public cooperation amid ongoing urban growth and potential climate-related water stress.
