An explosion at a fireworks manufacturing unit in Thrissur, Kerala, has claimed the lives of at least eight individuals, causing widespread grief. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow and announced financial compensation for the affected families.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh will be provided from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund for the next of kin of each deceased person. In addition, those injured will receive Rs 50,000 each.
The tragedy unfolded while preparations were underway for the upcoming Thrissur Pooram festival, with around 40 people believed to be present at the site during the explosion.
