A deadly explosion at a fireworks manufacturing unit in Mundathikkode claimed the lives of at least four individuals and inflicted burn injuries on many others. The tragic incident occurred in a shed where firecrackers were being prepared for the upcoming Thrissur Pooram festival.
Officials reported that around 40 individuals were believed to be present when the blast happened. The explosion resulted in many critical injuries, prompting immediate hospitalisation for the victims. Local authorities, including State Health Minister Veena George, have coordinated efforts to provide specialised medical care for the injured, utilizing facilities at Government Medical College, Thrissur, and nearby hospitals.
The disaster unfolded when the blast rocked the temporary sheds set up in a paddy field area. The situation was aggravated by subsequent explosions, which complicated rescue operations led by fire and police personnel. Despite these challenges, residents actively participated in rescue efforts while authorities continued to manage the crisis under high alert.
