The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park (IGZP) in Visakhapatnam has revealed a female black panther, a first in 40 years, after acquiring the rare cat through an exchange with the Assam State Zoo.

G Mangamma, IGZP curator, emphasized the inclusion of the black panther as an enhancement to the zoo's dedication to conservation, education, and biodiversity. The panther's introduction coincided with the inauguration of upgraded enclosures for several other species.

Adoption efforts continue to play a crucial role in the zoo's operations; notably, the black panther has been adopted by young M Nihira through a donation that will support its care for one year.
