The historic temple town of Guruvayur in Kerala is poised for a major advancement in animal healthcare. Plans are underway to establish a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital dedicated to elephants and cattle, managed by the Devaswom Board, custodians of the revered Sree Krishna Temple.
A high-level expert team from Vantara, a global animal rescue initiative under the Reliance Foundation, visited Guruvayur to assess the feasibility of this ambitious project. Their inspection of Punnathur Kotta, the renowned elephant camp, revealed significant potential for a multi-speciality veterinary facility.
Discussions, prompted by a recent visit from Anant Ambani, have initiated the planning phase, with the Devaswom Board invited to Vantara's Jamnagar base for further consultations. The team praised existing care standards and suggested advanced treatment protocols for temple elephant 'Nandan'.
