Dr. Gopalrao Patil, a former Rajya Sabha member and acclaimed paediatrician, passed away at the age of 94 in Latur, Maharashtra, following an illness, as reported by family members. Patil, who breathed his last at 7:12 a.m. at a private hospital, was a respected figure in both the medical and educational fields.
Serving as a Rajya Sabha member from 1994 to 2000, he made significant contributions to parliamentary committees covering commerce, external affairs, and railways. As a visionary educationist, Patil founded the Shiv Chhatrapati Shikshan Sanstha, which manages Rajarshi Shahu College in Latur, leaving a lasting impact on the region's educational landscape.
Born on October 3, 1931, Patil was an Osmania University graduate and became a revered child specialist in Latur. Known for his philanthropy, he offered free medical services in rural areas, earning the endearing moniker 'Devmanus'. He also played a pivotal role in establishing the Indian Pediatric Association's Latur branch and served as its first president.
