In a move aimed at enhancing the tourist experience and preserving cultural heritage, the Union Territory administration of Ladakh has mandated the wearing of traditional Ladakhi uniforms for commercial drivers. Announced on Friday, following approval from Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar, this initiative seeks to establish drivers as cultural ambassadors.

The directive, disseminated by the Regional Transport Officer of Ladakh, specifies that the attire is compulsory for all drivers across Leh and Kargil. The measure also includes the introduction of a standardised logo for all registered tourist vehicles, expected to streamline vehicle identification and foster trust among tourists.

Officials emphasized that drivers are often the first point of contact for visitors, and this initiative aims to effectively position them in representing Ladakh's rich culture. Moreover, it is designed to enhance service reliability, ensuring Ladakh’s status as a responsible tourism destination.
