The 'Yuva Kumbh' conclave held by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh at the Jawaharlal Nehru University Convention Centre sparked a heated debate on campus. Organizers lauded the event, designed to celebrate the Sangh's centenary and highlight the youth's role in nation-building, involving cultural showcases of Indian traditions.
Despite successful participation, protests erupted from the JNU Students' Union, which criticized the conclave as an ideological attempt to infiltrate academic spaces. They called for administrative action against alleged disturbances by 'leftist elements' and questioned the use of campus facilities for the event, citing university norms that restrict political and religious activities.
The presence of Ram Madhav, India Foundation chairman, who advocated for reshaping education to fit specific ideologies, intensified the opposition's concerns. The students' union demanded accountability from the university administration for facilitating what they perceived as a politicized gathering that compromised the institution's principles.
