Historic Legislative Recognition of Deepavali in Nebraska

The Nebraska State Legislature has made history by adopting a resolution that recognizes the celebration of Deepavali, a significant festival for Hindus worldwide, a development that the Indian Consulate in Seattle hailed as monumental for Nebraska's Hindu community.

Sponsored by State Senator John Frederickson and signed by Speaker John Arch, this resolution marks a landmark victory for the approximately 9,000 Hindus residing in Nebraska. Despite accounting for less than one percent of the state's population, the resolution’s passage signifies a new era of cultural integration and respect.

The legislation paves the way for a grand Diwali celebration, set for October 20, at the Governor's Mansion, hosted by Governor Jim Pillen. The Consulate expressed gratitude to Senator Frederickson for advocating for the resolution and thanked the Indian American community's support.
