Transforming Sassoon Dock: Maharashtra's Leap Toward World-Class Fishing Infrastructure

The Maharashtra government has entered into a significant agreement with three Finnish companies to revamp Sassoon Dock into a world-class fishing harbour. This transformative project is set to modernise the aging infrastructure, focusing on improved waste management and the recycling of plastic waste and discarded fishing nets.
State Fisheries Minister Nitesh Rane highlighted the harbour's vital role in the local economy, noting its current capacity of around 1,560 registered mechanised fishing boats and its impressive annual fish production. The agreement includes a comprehensive upgrade to public facilities and the installation of modern infrastructure, such as an ice plant and a new auction hall.
The collaborative effort is part of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's broader vision to support the fishing community and ensure sustainable coastal development. Through this initiative, Sassoon Dock is set to become an efficient and environmentally sustainable hub, embodying advanced technology and digitisation.
