On Monday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi presented the 'Priyadarshini Literary Award' to illustrious author and critic M Leelavathy, aged 98, at a ceremony.
Leelavathy, celebrated for her numerous literary accolades including the Sahitya Akademi Award, hails from Guruvayur and resides in Thrikkakara, Ernakulam. Rahul Gandhi lauded her as a national icon, noting her inspiring dedication to writing and reading, even at her advanced age.
He further expressed concern over the 'culture of silence' in society, labeling it as a form of cowardice driven by greed. Emphasizing the courage and voice required to forge great nations, Rahul Gandhi drew parallels with Leelavathy's humility and commitment to secular values.
