The Centre is collaborating with states to overhaul the e-way bill system, aiming to streamline the logistics environment under the GST framework. This initiative is set to be a focal point at the next GST Council meeting, according to insider reports.
In its recent Economic Survey, the government emphasized that the e-way bill should evolve to aid logistics, rather than merely enforce tax compliance. This reform is expected to cut costs and minimize delays in trade while maintaining stringent oversight.
The GST Council, led by the Union Finance Minister, has already met to address related issues such as tax rate modifications. Upcoming reforms will be informed by broader use of technologies like e-seals and electronic locks, reducing physical checks and promoting a trust-based system.
