PDP president Mehbooba Mufti appealed to the Centre to either ensure bail for Kashmiri detainees in distant jails or move them back to within Jammu and Kashmir, especially in cases where trials have yet to commence even after five years of incarceration.
Addressing concerns of residents during a public dialogue in Shehr-e-Khaas, Mehbooba noted ongoing problems in old Srinagar city, urging a dedicated budget to foster development. She praised rural education initiatives but called for similar opportunities for Srinagar's urban youth.
Highlighting crucial issues, Mehbooba mentioned the impact of mechanization on local artisans and the need for mental health awareness to counter rising substance abuse. She advocated for Kashmir becoming a dry region to tackle alcohol-related social issues, drawing parallels with Gujarat and Bihar.
