Director Pradipta Bhattacharyya's Bengali film ‘Nadharer Bhela’ has been selected for the international competition at the 31st Kolkata International Film Festival in the Innovation in Moving Images category. The festival is set to take place from November 6-13. 'Nadharer Bhela' is the only Indian film competing in this category.
The film, spanning three hours, will challenge for the Golden Royal Bengal Tiger award alongside 14 global contenders. Bhattacharyya, celebrated for his previous work 'Bakita Byaktigato’, expressed his delight over this recognition. He revealed that despite a year-long pre-production phase, the film was shot in just 13 days.
‘Nadharer Bhela’ centers on a protagonist who struggles to keep pace in a fast-moving society, emphasizing themes around individuals labeled as misfits due to slower productivity or aging. With performances from Bengali actors Ritwick Chakraborty and Amit Saha, the film was shot in Bhattacharyya's native village in West Bengal. This entry marks a notable achievement for the director and his team, showcasing their effort at both local and international levels.
