The Uttarakhand High Court has issued a directive for the state government to produce an investigation report on the death of an 18-year-old BCA student from Graphic Era Hill University, Bhimtal. This demand follows complaints from the student's father.
Justice Rakesh Thapliyal questioned why local authorities failed to register a case when the family alerted them, forcing the family to resort to filing a Zero FIR in Lucknow instead. Allegations from the father state that his daughter faced both ragging and molestation, which led to her distress prior to her untimely death under suspicious circumstances.
Despite video evidence purportedly showing her being molested, Bhawali police have yet to proceed with the investigation. The college's handling of the incident, which involved transferring the student to a Community Health Centre where she was declared dead, is also under scrutiny. The case is scheduled for further hearing on April 28, as the court seeks clarity and accountability.
