In a tragic incident on Wednesday, two young students from a primary school in Odisha's Gajapati district were killed after an iron gate and its supporting pillar collapsed on them, police reported.
The incident occurred at Rubudisingh's government primary school in the Nuagada block when the girls were playing near the entrance following classes. Beckylesh Raita, aged 10, and Idanti Raita, aged 9, were identified as the deceased.
Local villagers demanded compensation, prompting visits from district officials. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has ordered an investigation and announced financial relief for the victims' families, while tension in the area subsided after police and administration intervention.
