In a catastrophic turn of events, a bus ferrying devotees from Anandpur Sahib overturned in Punjab's Fatehgarh Sahib district, resulting in the tragic deaths of eight individuals and injuries to 19 more. The incident, which occurred late Tuesday on the Morinda-Chunni road near Himmatpura, has shaken the community.
The bus, which contained around 40 passengers returning to Main Majri village after celebrating Baisakhi, reportedly suffered a mechanical failure. Initial reports mentioned six fatalities, with additional casualties confirmed later. Injured parties were rushed to hospitals across the region, with critically injured patients referred to PGIMER in Chandigarh.
Top Indian officials, including President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President C P Radhakrishnan, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressed their sympathies to the victims' families. Local leaders and community representatives have also promised support and aid to those affected by this grievous loss.
