A severe train collision near Copenhagen, Denmark's capital, has left 17 people injured, with five in critical condition, according to emergency services. The accident involved two local trains that collided head-on in a wooded area, resulting in significant damage and chaotic scenes inside the carriages.
Fire and rescue service leader Christoffer Buhl Martekilde described the extensive damage as broken glass scattered everywhere due to the early morning crash. Authorities are yet to determine the cause of the collision, and an extensive investigation is underway.
The incident, which unfolded on the line connecting Hillerod and Kagerup, prompted a rapid response from emergency services, deploying 18 vehicles and 47 rescue workers. Neighboring Sweden's Prime Minister has offered assistance, marking solidarity amid Denmark's rare train accidents, recalling previous tragedies in 2019 and 2025.
