In a tragic incident early Thursday morning, two trains collided near Hillerød, Denmark, leaving five people critically injured. The collision, deemed a major incident by police, occurred around 6:30 a.m. and has affected a local rail line used by residents, employees, and schoolchildren.
The Greater Copenhagen Fire Department reported that roughly a dozen individuals suffered minor injuries. Evacuation of passengers from the impacted trains was completed, according to a spokesperson for the North Zealand police.
Authorities initially reported four critical injuries but later updated the count to five. Investigators are currently examining the cause of the collision, as images from the scene reveal significant damage to the trains' front ends. Some of the injured were airlifted to hospitals for immediate medical attention.
