Air Force's Selfie Scandal in the Skies

The South Korean air force has publicly apologized for a mid-air collision in 2021 involving two fighter jets, following revelations of pilot negligence. Auditors found that the accident was caused by pilots engaging in personal selfies and filming during the flight.

According to a report by the state Board of Audit and Inspection, the collision occurred due to unsanctioned maneuvers intended for personal documentation. This resulted in a collision between two F-15K jets near Daegu in December 2021.

No injuries were reported, but damage costs amounted to approximately 880 million won ($600,000). The air force is implementing stricter rules to bolster flight safety and ensure such incidents do not happen again.
