The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (RTC) employees have commenced a strike, leading to widespread disruption in state transportation services. Their protest consists of 32 demands, key among them being the merger of RTC with the government.
In response to halted bus services, many daily commuters resorted to private transportation. However, the government strived to meet public needs by deploying private and electric buses. Despite Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar’s appeal for the strike's suspension, employees persisted with their demands.
The standoff resulted from unsuccessful negotiations with government officials. While the government expressed openness to most demands, technical delays over the merger and union elections led to a stalemate. As RTC largely serves rural and urban transport needs, the strike severely inconvenienced many passengers.
