Soaring Fuel Costs Skyrocket Flight Expenses Amid Iran Conflict
The Iran war's disruption of global oil supplies is significantly inflating long-haul flight costs from Europe, as revealed by the group Transport & Environment (T&E). Jet fuel prices have surged, raising fuel costs by 88 euros per passenger on long-haul European flights, prompting airlines to consider passing these costs onto consumers.
The ongoing Iran conflict is causing a significant rise in long-haul flight costs originating from Europe due to disruptions in global oil supplies, according to advocacy group Transport & Environment (T&E).
Jet fuel price hikes have raised average fuel expenses by 88 euros per passenger on European long-haul flights. T&E's study, comparing prices between February and April, highlights the potential for increased ticket prices as airlines prepare for a challenging travel season, with escalating fuel costs exceeding $100 per barrel amid concerns of possible flight cancellations.
In response, European airlines are considering passing these additional expenses onto consumers, and the EU is set to issue guidelines for managing limited jet fuel supply. T&E emphasizes the crisis underscores the vulnerability of reliance on foreign oil over climate policies.
