Bihar's Commercial Taxes Surge Amid Economic Challenges

The Bihar commercial taxes department announced a revenue collection of Rs 43,324 crore for the 2025-26 fiscal year, meeting 93.17% of its target amidst challenging economic circumstances, officials reported on Thursday.
According to Sanjay Kumar Singh, Secretary-cum-Commissioner, the department saw a notable increase in GST collections, amounting to Rs 32,801 crore, which reflects a year-on-year growth of 11.67%. Deductions from the central government for an IGST settlement brought the net receipt to Rs 32,077 crore, sustaining a 9.2% growth.
Singh described these results as 'outstanding', especially under circumstances that included a GST rate rationalization and the Bihar assembly elections. The department also exceeded its target in registration collections, achieving 101.86% of its goal, with revenues standing at Rs 8,403.46 crore.
