India's passenger vehicle market achieved a milestone in 2025-26 with sales hitting a new high of 47 lakh units. Driven by leading automakers such as Maruti Suzuki, Tata Motors, and Mahindra & Mahindra, the industry benefited from GST 2.0 enhancements and economic tailwinds.
Maruti Suzuki logged its highest sales with 24,22,713 units, while Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra also reported record volumes. Tata credited GST improvements and a strong festive season for a boost in the second half, while Mahindra marked new highs in SUVs and LCVs.
Despite the positive trends, the industry remains cautious of geopolitical tensions affecting supply chains. Rising commodity prices present a challenge, potentially impacting consumer demand particularly in cost-sensitive segments such as small cars.
