LPG Shortage Threatens Canpack India's Bottling Operations
Canpack India faces potential shutdown of its glass bottle production furnaces if the LPG supply doesn't resume in four days, incurring a Rs 600 crore restart cost. The shortage also threatens an aluminum can unit. The company has contacted government officials to expedite solutions.
Canpack India may be forced to halt production at its Waluj Industrial Area furnaces due to an impending LPG shortage, warned CEO Vikram Potdar during a media interaction on Wednesday.
The glass bottle producer, servicing breweries and pharmaceuticals, faces significant financial loss if LPG supplies aren't restored within four days. Restarting the furnaces, which require constant high temperatures, could cost Rs 600 crore and take three months.
Efforts to avert the crisis include communication with the Maharashtra Chief Minister and the Petroleum Ministry, advocating for swift governmental intervention. The situation also jeopardizes an aluminum can manufacturing unit reliant on LPG.
