A severe shortage of commercial LPG cylinders has created chaos for hotels in the city, leaving many on the brink of closure. Industry representatives have warned that roughly 25 to 30 percent of establishments might shut down as early as tomorrow, with the number increasing to 75 percent within two days if the crisis persists.

The scarcity has forced hostels in the IT corridor to streamline their menus, avoiding labor-intensive dishes like chapatis and dosas. Ashok Reddy, President of the Hyderabad Hotels Association, highlighted the dire situation, explaining how some smaller hotels have resorted to induction stoves and wood as alternative cooking methods. However, these options are impractical for hotels located on upper floors.

Reddy also noted the emergence of black market activities as desperation grows among hotel owners, who liken the scenario to the challenges faced during the COVID-19 pandemic. With potential shutdowns looming, hotel operators face the dilemma of managing their workforce. A meeting with Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is being planned as industry leaders seek urgent intervention.
