Goa's Culinary Crisis: Restaurants Face Shutdown Amid Gas Shortage

The tourism industry in Goa is on edge as a lack of commercial cooking gas cylinders threatens the operational continuity of many restaurants. The shortage, attributed to supply disruptions stemming from the West Asia conflict, could spell a substantial setback for a region reliant on its vibrant culinary scene.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant assured the public that discussions with the Union Petroleum Minister are underway to address this pressing issue. Sawant highlighted the concerns of more than 3,000 registered restaurants in the state, vital to Goa's tourism-driven economy, emphasizing the urgency to find a resolution.

In response to the disruption, the Goa Hotel and Restaurant Association has urged its members to adopt measures such as menu curtailing and transitioning to electric cooking devices. This move aims to mitigate impacts on businesses as they navigate the ongoing crisis, which experts note is compounded by global geopolitical tensions affecting LPG imports.
