Bangladesh has barred SpiceJet from accessing its airspace due to pending financial obligations, sources revealed. The budget airline now faces extended routes for several flights from Kolkata, impacting journeys to cities such as Guwahati.
A SpiceJet spokesperson assured that the airline engages in ongoing dialogues with authorities to address operational and procedural challenges, including navigation charges. They emphasized that these are industry-standard issues, and are actively seeking a resolution without disrupting flight schedules.
The precise nature of the outstanding dues remains unclear. Meanwhile, data shows SpiceJet flights from Kolkata now take alternative routes, evading Bangladesh's airspace. This change coincides with financial struggles, as evidenced by significant reported losses, and shares reflecting a one percent decline.
