A Bangladeshi student activist named Ahmed Raza Hasan Mehdi, wanted in his home country for the murder of a Hindu police officer, was intercepted and deported from Indira Gandhi International Airport, official sources revealed on Thursday.

Mehdi, who hails from Habiganj in Bangladesh, was apprehended by immigration authorities as he attempted to board a flight to a European destination. He is accused in connection with the killing of Sub-Inspector Santosh Chowdhury on August 5, 2024.

Following his detention, Mehdi was placed into custody and subsequently deported to Bangladesh, where he will face legal proceedings for the charges against him, according to the source.
