Modi's Historic Landing: First Emergency Landing Facility in Northeast Inaugurated

Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a historic arrival in northeast India by landing on the first Emergency Landing Facility (ELF) in Assam's Dibrugarh district. The inaugural event was marked by his landing aboard a C-130J aircraft on the 4.2-kilometer reinforced Moran Bypass stretch, part of National Highway-37.

This Rs 100-crore initiative is designed to serve as a dual-purpose runway, accommodating both military and civilian aircraft. It stands as a strategic asset for the Indian Air Force's fighter jets and transport planes, enhancing the region's defence, logistics, and disaster response capabilities.

The new ELF offers an alternative landing option to the existing Dibrugarh airport during emergencies, making it a significant addition to India's aviation infrastructure. The ceremony was also attended by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Air Chief Marshal A P Singh.
