Diplomatic Turbulence: Clash Over U.S.-Mexico Airline Routes

Tensions are brewing between Mexico and the United States over the revocation of approval for 13 Mexican airline routes to the U.S. and the halted flights from Mexico City's Felipe Angeles International Airport. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed her disagreement with these decisions during her daily press conference.

In response to these developments, Sheinbaum announced her intention to request a meeting between Mexico's foreign minister and the U.S. Secretary of State to scrutinize the basis for these "unilateral actions." She remains hopeful that a mutual understanding can be reached.

Meanwhile, U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy criticized Mexico for allegedly freezing U.S. carrier flights for three years, defying a bilateral aviation agreement. In the midst of these discussions, Mexican airline Volaris revealed it is evaluating the implications of these measures, although it anticipates only a marginal effect on its operations.
