In a decisive move to tackle air pollution, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced plans to run 40 extra trips on weekdays. The strategy aims to entice commuters to opt for the metro over personal vehicles, a DMRC official confirmed on Wednesday.
DMRC Managing Director Dr. Vikas Kumar led inspections in north Delhi's Ashok Vihar and Derawal Nagar, focusing on dust control at the Krishna Park Extension–RK Ashram Marg corridor. Additional trips might be added, depending on environmental guidelines, he noted.
The DMRC has pioneered several environmental measures. Techniques like the Miyawaki method led to planting over 12,500 saplings, and efforts at Phase IV construction sites rejuvenated Roshanara Bagh Lake. A study highlighted the metro's role in reducing vehicle kilometers, fuel consumption, pollutants, and accidents, marking a significant impact on urban pollution.
