The Aluminium Association of India (AAI) has requested government intervention to shield local aluminium producers from the influx of inexpensive imports that jeopardize their market competitiveness.
AAI has urged the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade and the Ministry of Finance to restrict access to India's market for international aluminium, concerned about global tariff escalations and non-tariff barriers that could transform India into a dumping site for excess capacity nations.
Declaring aluminium as a critical metal, recognized by NATO, the European Union, the United States, and India, the industry body highlighted the metal's essential role in sectors such as national security, infrastructure, and energy transitions, against a backdrop of rising international tariffs and protective measures.
