In a recent statement, Reliance Industries Ltd., India's primary consumer of Russian oil, announced its commitment to complying with Western sanctions against Russia. Despite this stance, the company plans to preserve its existing relationships with oil suppliers, reinforcing its strategic stance in the global oil market.

Reliance Industries, under the control of billionaire Mukesh Ambani, operates the world's largest refining facility in Jamnagar, Gujarat. The company maintains a long-term contract to procure approximately 500,000 barrels per day of crude oil from the Russian oil behemoth Rosneft. This deal signifies Reliance's significant role in the global oil economy.

The complicated landscape intensifies as the refiner also sources Russian oil through intermediaries. With U.S. sanctions targeting major Russian producers like Lukoil and Rosneft, Reliance navigates the challenging international sanctions environment while securing its energy needs.
