Record-breaking sales during Diwali 2025, amounting to Rs 6.05 lakh crore, have reinforced India's economic vigor and Swadeshi spirit, according to the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT). The milestone, based on extensive surveys, underscores a shift towards Indian-made goods and echoes Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Vocal for Local campaign.
CAIT's research highlights a pronounced preference for domestic products, with 87 per cent of consumers opting for Indian-made goods, causing a decline in demand for Chinese items. This period witnessed a 25 per cent increase in Indian product sales compared to last year's figures, marking a robust performance of non-corporate and traditional markets.
The Diwali sales analysis revealed a diverse sectoral contribution to the economy, with Grocery & FMCG leading. The impact extends beyond goods, with services like hospitality and logistics contributing Rs 65,000 crore, showcasing the festive season's broad economic ripple effect. Beneficial GST rationalisation has also spurred consumer demand and satisfaction with pricing stability.
