Tragedy on the Runway: Cargo Plane Crash at Hong Kong Airport
The runway where a cargo plane crashed is set to reopen in Hong Kong after a tragic accident that led to the death of two workers. The Boeing 747 operated by ACT Airlines skidded off the runway, but investigators are still gathering crucial evidence to determine the cause.
Preparations to reopen a runway in Hong Kong following a cargo plane crash were underway on Tuesday, though regular operations will remain on hold until the wreckage is cleared. The Boeing 747 Boeing involved, flown by ACT Airlines from Dubai, veered off course upon landing.
The runway accident resulted in a catastrophic collision with a patrol car, sending both into the ocean. Tragically, two individuals in the car died, while the plane's four crew members emerged unscathed. Steven Yiu, of the airport authority, confirmed that runway repairs are complete, yet crucial evidence, including cockpit voice and flight data recorders, remains uncollected.
Post-crash operations to resume runway activity are hindered by Tropical Storm Fengshen and removal efforts are contingent upon weather conditions. This marks ACT Airlines' second tragic crash; a similar event occurred in 2017, attributed to crew misjudgments.
