NMDC Steel Becomes First in India to Earn BIS Certification for Pipeline Steel

In a landmark achievement that strengthens India's industrial and infrastructural capabilities, NMDC Steel Limited (NSL) — the country's youngest and one of its most advanced integrated steel plants — has become the first company in India to receive an Indian Standards (IS) license for "Hot Rolled Steel Strip, Sheet, and Plates for Welded Steel Pipe for Pipeline Transportation Systems – General Requirements (IS 18384:2023)".
The certification was formally conferred by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) during the World Standards Day 2025 celebration held at Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay Auditorium, Raipur. This recognition marks a defining moment not only for NMDC Steel but also for India's fast-evolving steel sector, which continues to align itself with world-class quality and sustainability benchmarks.

The prestigious certification was presented to Shri Amrit Narayan, Chief General Manager (Steel), NMDC Steel, by Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh. The event was graced by Shri Dayal Das Baghel, Minister of Food & Civil Supplies, and Shri S.K. Gupta, Director & Head, BIS Raipur.
