Belgium has launched an investigation following sightings of drones over a military base in its south-east, according to Defence Minister Theo Francken. This marks the second occurrence in under a month, raising security alarms.
Francken took to social media platform X, indicating the barracks’ guards in Marche-en-Famenne alerted authorities after witnessing multiple drones over critical areas of the base on both Sunday and Tuesday, prompting police and intelligence agency ADIV to investigate.
These incidents occur amid heightened vigilance across NATO nations due to aerial incursions, with similar situations recorded at another Belgian base, as well as various airports in Europe. The European Commission is advocating for robust defense initiatives, including anti-drone systems, to reinforce readiness by 2030.
