India Forms AI Governance Task Force to Shape Future Policy

An inter-ministerial task force named the AI Governance and Economic Group (AIGEG) has been set up, with Union IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw taking the lead. This group, according to an official statement, will guide India's overarching strategy on AI governance.
The AIGEG aims to synchronize AI policy across various ministries, departments, and regulators, while also tackling cross-sectoral governance issues. Supported by a Technology and Policy Expert Committee, the group will receive expert advice on global technology trends and AI policy challenges.
The AIGEG plans to address AI's impact on labor markets and work with industries to develop AI deployment strategies. It will also set guidelines for accountable AI use and fill regulatory gaps, ensuring alignment with national goals.
