Pakistan's First 5G Spectrum Auction: A Leap Towards Digital Future
Pakistan conducted a 5G spectrum auction, advancing its digital infrastructure. Zong, Jazz, and Ufone acquired frequencies, with the auction raising USD 507 million. The event was marked as a significant milestone, boosting connectivity and technology integration in the country.

On Tuesday, Pakistan reached a significant milestone in its digital development by auctioning the 5G spectrum. Notable telecommunications companies Zong, Jazz, and Ufone, competed for access to the crucial 2600 MHz frequency band required for 5G services.
The auction concluded with Zong acquiring 110MHz, Ufone securing 180MHz, and Jazz obtaining 190MHz. A total of 480 megahertz was sold, generating an impressive USD 507 million by the end of the third round. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb praised the collaborative efforts of the spectrum committee and highlighted the continuity of the IT policy despite governmental changes.
IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja lauded the auction's success as an important day for Pakistan, emphasizing the enhanced quality of 4G connectivity and the introduction of 5G for the first time. She underscored the internet's crucial role across various sectors, from personal life to national security, asserting it as a foundational tool for the nation.
