ByteDance Faces Legal Crossfire Over AI Video Generator
ByteDance is facing legal action from Disney and other U.S. studios for its AI video generator, Seedance 2.0. The technology allegedly uses copyrighted characters without permission. ByteDance promises to strengthen measures against unauthorized use of intellectual property. Similar actions were previously taken against Character.AI.
ByteDance is currently under fire from U.S. studios, including Disney, over its AI video generator, Seedance 2.0. The Chinese technology firm revealed plans to strengthen measures against unauthorized use of intellectual property after accusations of using copyrighted characters without permission.
Released last week, Seedance 2.0 quickly gained popularity in China, with videos featuring stars like Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt going viral. However, Disney was quick to send a cease-and-desist letter, alleging that Seedance was recreating and utilizing characters from its franchises, including Star Wars and Marvel, without the necessary authorizations.
Other companies, such as Paramount Skydance, have also accused ByteDance of intellectual property infringement, escalating the legal battles the company faces. Similar actions have been taken by Disney against Character.AI, and the case underscores ongoing concerns over the use of AI technology in creative works.
